Free Activities to do with your 9-12 month old Nathania, February 13, 2022October 12, 2023 A baby is cool, but like… what do I do with it?There are so many parents who absolutely love their bundle of joy, but have no idea what to do with them or have spent thousands on toys their child wants nothing to do with. Trust me, I’ve been there. I purchased expensive toys I could barely afford hoping it would be great for my sons development and he would be so smart by using it. He crawls past the toy every time the remote control catches his eye. The remote! Set out some pots and pans on the floor with wooden spoons. Put your little one in front of it and watch as they make some great music!BBC Tiny Happy PeopleActivity 2: Toy Tape RescueYou can use the back of a baking pan and tape some toys to the back. Give your baby the baking pan and watch those little fingers try to rescue their toys! This is fun and great for fine motor development. Messy Learning KidsActivity 3: 3 Objects, 2 HandsGet 3 objects that are similar in size. They can be small toys or just something you find laying around. Give your baby two objects so their hands are both holding something. Then, offer them the third object. They will drop one of the two objects they’re holding to grab what you’re offering. Continue the same process over and over until you or your baby get bored. Activity 4: Following a BallPut your baby on the floor with a ball. Roll it around in front of them and allow them to follow it with their eyes, then hold it in their hands. This works on fine motor skills. If you want to focus a bit on gross motor development, you can always push the ball across the floor and encourage them to crawl after it. PampersActivity 5: Spagetti PlayCook up some spagetti noodles and put them in front of your little one. Watch their reactions as it glides through their fingers. For some extra fun you can even put the spagetti in a bucket with your little one inside and let them go to town! This activity does require some more clean up than the others, but you and your kiddo can always just… grub on the pasta to speed things up a bit.Being the ParentActivity 6: Pom Pom DropThis is one of my favorite activities on the list! This is for the older babies, much closer to toddlerhood. Take an empty papertowel roll and tape it to the wall. Get some tiny pom poms from the dollar store or just something small enough to glide through the roll. Model how to drop the pom pom through the at the top of the roll and act excited about it coming through the bottom. Show it again a few times before handing the pom poms to your little one to try themselves. 7 days of playLearning can be free, and fun!All in all, don’t feel pressured to spend tons of money on learning activities for your little one. There is always a free alternative for teaching your little one those essential skills. Motherhood Toddler Activities
