Everything You Need To Know in Your Third Trimester Nathania, October 3, 2021April 16, 2024 The third trimester of pregnancy is the final stretch before the arrival of your little one. It’s chaotic and stressful, but it’s also kind of beautiful and amazing too.As the due date approaches, you’re gonna start to feel more uncomfortable, and it’s essential to take care of yourself. Here are some tips to help you get through the third trimester and finally meet your little mini me!Image from Canva Photo LibraryMove your bodyThe one thing I heard the most often whenever I complained about still being pregnant, was to move my body. And it’s so true. If you’re anything like I was you’ll want to slow down, or well… lay down, like constantly. But, staying active during the third trimester can be beneficial. Regular exercise can help reduce back pain, improve your mood, and increase your energy levels. Walking, prenatal yoga, and swimming are all great options, but it’s important to consult with your health provider before starting any new exercise routine.Get enough restCan’t sleep on your back, can’t sleep on your stomach obviously, but your left side isn’t comfortable, so you have to sleep on your right side but the baby doesn’t like that, so you have to sleep on your left side. Or was that just me? LOL.Getting enough sleep during the third trimester can be frustrating, but it’s essential for your health and the baby’s development. Try out a pregnancy pillow in addition to an unwinding routine to help your transition to bedtime go smoother.Stay HydratedStaying hydrated is important in general. Twice as much during pregnancy. Get it? Because you’re two people in one, okay, sorry. ANYWAY, drinking enough water can help prevent constipation, reduce swelling, plus keep you and the baby healthy.Eat a Healthy DietIn my first and second-trimester lists, I discussed how your baby will eat you from the inside out without proper nutrition. But now, you want to prepare your body for labor. Try raspberry leaf tea to soften your cervix, and avoid foods that are high in sugar and fat.Image from Canva Photo LibraryTake photosThe biggest regret I have about my pregnancy is not taking enough photos. I was so insecure about my body that I didn’t document the process.Even if you don’t want to spend the money on a full maternal photo shoot, you can always do a DIY one or keep it simple with weekly mirror-style bump photos.Prepare for Labor and DeliveryThe third trimester has two speeds. Slugs at the DMV from Zootopia or Dash from The Incredibles. No in-between. Don’t procrastinate because it’s called a “guess date” for a reason.Go to some childbirth classes with your support person, pack your hospital bag, and discuss your birth plan with your healthcare provider.Keep an Eye on Your SymptomsPay attention to any symptoms you may experience during the third trimester, such as contractions, vaginal bleeding, or fluid leaking from the vagina. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of these symptoms. You may experience Braxton Hicks or a false labor, but contact your healthcare provider anyway, just to be sure.Stay Connected with Your PartnerIf you are going through your pregnancy with a significant other, take this time before the baby comes to bond and solidify your love for one another. Pregnancy can be a challenging time for you both in different ways, but it’s important to stay connected and support each other. If possible, attend prenatal appointments together, discuss your concerns and fears, plan for the future as a family, and spend quality time together doing something that makes you feel connected to one another. When the baby comes, it may be a thousand times harder to connect, and the pressure will be on when it comes to caring for them.Image from Canva Photo LibraryAll in allThe third trimester of pregnancy can be both exciting and challenging.
