Romanticizing Motherhood 101: For the Tired Mamas Nathania, April 24, 2022October 11, 2023 Add a lil razzle dazzle to make life a tiny bit more bearable...Motherhood is a full-time job, and it can be easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routine of running a household and caring for kids. However, it is important for us moms to take time for ourselves and appreciate the little things. By adding some romance and excitement to daily routines, you can feel more fulfilled, rejuvenated, and connected to the best version of yourself. Here are some tips for beginners who are struggling to find any happiness in the overstimulating realms of motherhood.Find a way to be AloneWhether it’s waking up a few minutes earlier than everyone else and taking your time through your self-care morning routine, or watching a romantic comedy after naptime with a glass of wine – find a way to spend quality time with just you. Be in the mindset of dating yourself and learn to prioritize your own needs as well as those who depend on you.Appreciate the world around youNot everyone can afford to go on vacations 10x a year, AND THAT’S OKAY. Take a minute to admire the sunrise while you’re sipping your morning drink. Go for walks on nature trails and watch the leaves sway in the wind. Allow yourself to feel at peace at the drive-thru while you’re ordering takeout because you were too tired to cook dinner. It’s okay. Your little one will be so happy to get them chicken nuggets, don’t stress so much.Write in a JournalI understand that journaling isn’t for everyone, but just try it out. You may even surprise yourself and really find it valuable. Write down about your day, your goals, your biggest ambitions, everything you can think of. But also, write about everything you already have. Write about how grateful you are to have the things you do. Cherish the ‘blessings’ you have received and write love letters to whatever your higher power is about how grateful you will be when you continue to receive those ‘blessings.’Photo by Ogo: pexels.comFind a way to let go of mom guiltIf I had to choose the part that I struggle with most in motherhood, it would be mom guilt and the way it feeds my anxiety. Since becoming pregnant with my son, anxiety has become a major part of my life. I tend to overthink and second-guess my choices so much more now.One thing that helps me through this is talking to other moms about the things that stress me out. Making those connections has made such a difference in my mental health, and I highly recommend having a squad of mamas in your village. During the times when I was at my loneliest, I used the Peanut app and found some amazing lifelong connections in my city. MeetAkina is an alternative specifically catered to black mothers. Another thing that helps to tackle mom guilt is by writing myself love letters, using a gratitude journal, and reading these affirmations every morning after my skincare routine. Date NightsDate nights can be a great way to romanticize your life. Obviously, these occasions can be hard to make work, especially when your littles are super small, but try to find ways to have fun date nights at home. It doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate. The point is to create fun memories and find joy in the small moments. Light some candles, dim the lights, watch a movie you’re both interested in, and enjoy some snacks together.Create memories with your kidsTrust me when I say, your mini-me loves hanging out with you. Try taking them to a museum or beach or any activity you think they’d enjoy. I love using Groupon because I can usually find some great local activities that are kid-friendly for a low price. Indulge in whatever maintenance you can to make yourself feel beautiful and confident. Keep in mind that romanticizing life is a mentality that you have to practice over time. You’ll attract so much positive energy and good vibes when you radiate confidence. Join a communityJoining a weekly class, book club, sports team, or even building an online platform of people who support you can work wonders in terms of your outlook on life. Surround yourself with people who make you feel good. Participate in activities that make you feel good. Connect with other like-minded individuals and build new friendships to keep your mindset clear, focused, and uplifting.Make your Home a HOMEYour home should be your safe haven. Take the time to design your space in a way that makes you feel at peace. If you’re unsure about home decor and what you like, try watching HGTV or looking up different styles online. Personally, I love the modern black and white aesthetic, but I’m also a sucker for a glamorous pink statement piece. Try adding soft blankets, decorative pillows, and candles in your living spaces to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that aligns with relaxation and romance. Incorporating fresh flowers or plants can also add a touch of natural beauty and freshness.Photo by Lisa Fotios – Pexels.comAll in AllWe, moms have a lot on our plates, but it is important for us to take time to romanticize our lives.
